This year for the first time the Halifax County Junior Livestock Show will be held on opening day of the Halifax County Heritage and Antique Machinery Festival at the Fairgrounds.
According to Chad Francis, Halifax County Junior Livestock Show Coordinator, nearly 30 area youth have been working with their animals for months in preparation for the show.
The youth, some of whom are veteran presenters and others are first time presenters, will show approximately 40 animals including cows, pigs, lambs, goats and rabbits.
Kaitlyn Love enjoys preparing for the show and loves to see and meet new kids who want to participate in the Livestock Show. Her brother, Dylan Love, also enjoys spending time with his rabbits. Dylan has also shown lambs and goats at past shows. Evan and Carter Francisco are very excited about the Junior Livestock Show and invite everyone to come out to the show. They have both worked hard getting their goat ready for their first show.
Other first time presenters, Reed and Trigg Francis have also worked hard getting their lambs and rabbits ready and say they are ready to show them off.
West and Emory Conner are also excited about the upcoming show and invite everyone to come out and support the show and all the children who have worked so hard getting their animals ready to show. West and Emory will be showing calves and hogs.
The Junior Livestock Show is scheduled to begin at 2 pm Friday, May 5 in the Livestock Exhibit Building at the Halifax County Fairgrounds. The animals will be on exhibit all weekend during the Heritage Festival.
The 14th Annual Halifax County Heritage and Antique Machinery Festival opens Friday, May 5 at 12 noon and will conclude Sunday, May 7 at 5 pm. Festival times are: Friday from 12 noon until 9 pm, Saturday from 9 am to 9 pm, and Sunday from 1 pm until 5 pm. Admission is $5.00 per day for adults and children 12 years old and older. Children under 12 will be admitted free.
